SoundAffects announces launch of sister trading company SoundAffects Education

SoundAffects announces the launch of SoundAffects Education, a new service designed to make SoundAffects audio material far more widely available as a downloadable educational resource. Audio material, supported by lesson plans and background notes and transcripts, will be issued on a new website to be launched in June.

“We want to make the SoundAffects unique brand of professionally recorded audio material of children in the global South talking about the detail of their lives far more widely available to schools all over the world” says SoundAffects Co-Director Caroline Swinburne.

Audio material will be issued in Topics, which will each provide material for around four lessons. Subject matter already being developed includes “Friendship: Sri Lanka” for KS1, “My Family : Ghana” and “My School : Sri Lanka” for KS2, “Fair Trade: Kenya”, “Sexual Relations: Ghana” and “Flooding and Climate Change: Sri Lanka” for KS3. Whilst to begin with much use will be made of audio material already recorded for use in direct linking projects, SoundAffects Education will also soon be commissioning new material recorded specifically for this project, from experienced radio journalists around the world.

SoundAffects Education material is designed for use on a classroom whiteboard, with audio clips synched to still images of the speaker. There is also an optional written transcript of audio material Topics are presented with simple but structured lesson plans prepared by experienced education writers, brief but clear background notes on the country and subject matter concerned, and guidance on use within the English national curriculum.
